Dear sisters and brothers in the Albert-Schweitzer-Haus!
"Live as children of light! The fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness, righteousness and truth. "These words from the 5th Chapter of Ephesians, I would now like to trace you. It fits well with the life of Albert Schweitzer, in which we think today in the Albert-Schweitzer-house special.
Albert Schweitzer was a special form of light, even if some people want him to prove dark spots. So many extraordinary talents had given him. Theology, music, medicine - which he touched succeeded him well. During the Whitsun 1896 it fell suddenly on the idea that he happiness of all his talents and immense energy reserves are not allowed to keep for themselves alone, but that man has to serve. Therefore, he started 30 years ago to study medicine. To this end he had to overcome resistance associated. The university did not allow him as an experienced professor of theology to study. And perhaps we become more sensitive and attentive to that which has value before God. Maybe we learn in the light of God's forgiveness, ourselves and others to accept the way we are, and always make a new beginning. Perhaps unyielding hardness of our hearts are soft. Perhaps we gain courage sensitive but also much to say uncomfortable, heavy truths, or whatever Jesus in our life works. Where we expose our lives to the light, where we trust Jesus Christ, as distinguished traces of light into our lives. And where we fall back into old, long dismissed believed darkness, we are called back into the light. Open your eyes and let the light into you! Let you hold not of the night, not your fears, not your troubles, not the anger and the disappointments that eat away at you. Open yourself to life, joy, hope! Open yourself to Jesus Christ, and he'll light: illuminating an uncertain future inside, warming in cold and lonely, life forces and arousing hope where fear is paralyzing and other spirits. Christ will illuminate you. For he is the light of day. Whoever succeeds him, the light will have life, and no darkness can hold him indefinitely.
