International Albert Schweitzer Association (AISL) visited in Weimar

Dr. Horst-Peter Reichardt, Radeburg

At the invitation of the Albert Schweitzer Association Committee. "Took place on 14th and 15th May, this year's Annual General Meeting of AISL held in Weimar. Besides the most important person of the board (Comité Directeur) other members of this international organization from Germany, Switzerland, France, Austria, the Netherlands, Great Britain and the USA were present. Among them highlight two granddaughters Albert Schweitzer:

Monique Egli, who is also a member of the ASK, and Christiane Engel, a doctor and concert pianist in California, where Schweitzer's daughter, Rhena Schweitzer - lived Miller until her death in early 2009 .. It represents now the family in the Schweitzer Foundation International Lambarene - Foundation (FISL), who runs the local jungle hospital. Also present were the President and other members of this Board of Trustees. So, as one says, "everything that has status and name in the international Albert - Schweitzer - movement."

In meetings of the Board and the members reported on various activities of the aisle and the affiliated national associations as well as on the progress of the work of Lambarene - Hospital. As a result of profound political events in the state of Gabon economy and health care were particularly well in about 200 km from the capital Libreville significantly disrupted, so that afford the Schweitzer Hospital for over 30% more work needed. For the budget of the institution but also meant a welcome increase in revenue. Positive effect and the change from the president. The current Bongo called the Son of the former. He is receptive to the hospital and secured an increase to the financial support of the State to ensure the survival of the clinic. In his first international appearances he has found that Gabon as a state bit, but Lambarene and Schweitzer were known everywhere! He particularly wanted to promote the necessary performance improvements for the control and prevention of infectious diseases constantly increasing tuberculosis and AIDS.

Under the previous president of the FISL, Dr. Roland Wolf, Germany, the hospital could operate without a financial deficit for the first time. In the hundreds of thousands continuous donations from Germany and Switzerland contributed to this significantly. For connoisseurs of the "scene" it was therefore incomprehensible why was elected just by the Gabonese representative is a U.S. citizen as the new president as of yet there was no significant financial support. That must change in the future!

The board of the AISL are representatives of national associations for the care of "the spiritual heritage Schweitzer's "globally. From our club, this was in the last 20 years, Dr. Reichardt, who was in Weimar, a ceremony of this honorary post. As a new representative was elected Wissel Eberhart, who is in East Germany for over half a century for the active work of Schweitzer and respected internationally, especially because of his previous eight Lambarene - Travelling by guiding tourist groups.

general meeting of the AISL in Weimar - a resounding success

On 14 and 15 May 2010 found the annual general meeting the International Albert Schweitzer Organization (AISL) held in Weimar. Normally, the AISL meeting in Alsace, where it has its registered office, that they had followed this year's invitation to Weimar our association, we felt as a great honor. We were able to welcome guests from all over the world, from Switzerland, Austria, France, Great Britain, the Netherlands and the United States.

This year's AGM was controversial insofar as the AISL had to determine its position on in April 2010 took place in Lambaréné surprising election of the President of the FISL, her foundation. Because this was particularly important agenda item, two Granddaughters of Albert Schweitzer - Monique Egli from Switzerland and Christiane Engel in the United States - agreed to participate in the short term. For us, the encounter with a special highlight of the conference, as well as the acquaintance of Dr. Walter Munz and his wife Jo, who have been with Albert Schweitzer worked in Lambaréné and we know from their insightful books about their experiences in Africa.

On Friday, 14:05 met., The Comité Directeur, the board of the aisle, before we got together for the first evening of stimulating conversation at the Memorial.

The Saturday the 15.05., Began with the Annual General Meeting in Sophia House. As an introduction I could imagine the guests of our club and explain our most important work goals. The Lord Mayor of Weimar, Mr Stefan Wolf, clever greeting was received with much approval.

The event, the reports focused on the work of 2009, and naturally the report from Lambarene about numbers and figures on the achievements, but also came to the problems of the hospital on a particular interest. It was first described by Dr. Roland Wolf, a complement to the new president FISL Lachlan Forrow (USA) presented.

The subsequent discussion made the effort of the various national associations clear network to itself, that is common to both old tasks and new projects at work, in which the course in 2013 upcoming 100th anniversary of Lambarene "in the center of attention.

The meeting ended with the election of the President, the Treasurer and the Board of the Aisle (Comité directeur): Mr. Christoph Wyss (Switzerland) was confirmed as president in office. The Comité directeur solves our board member Eberhart Wissel

Dr. Horst-Peter Reichardt (Honorary Member of the ASK), who did not run more after many years of work on grounds of age. We thank him for his years of dedicated work!

interested Schweitzer friends from our club and the city of Weimar were able to attend the meeting but had no equal voice.

the afternoon of that day used the conference including members of their free time to visit the Goethe House, or for a trip to Buchenwald, before later to an evening meeting at the Memorial came together. First, a small organ concert hall from Ekaterina Leontyeva provided a very special art appreciation, then the conference tone for a wonderful dinner and a glass of wine from the comfort.

The adoption was extremely friendly and always subject to the hope of a reunion. Many of the guests were first brought to the eastern and expressed high appreciation for the city of Weimar, the welcome in the hotels and the hospitality experienced in our house.

For our team these days were very important: First, we got a deep insight Schweitzer in the international work and direct contact with the respective leaders of other countries, on the other we could make our organization and our work known.

all our helpers who have contributed to the success these days is our gratitude - especially women Lepper, who had already begun months earlier with the first preparations and in recent days, almost around the clock all has taken care of concerns of conference participants. Thank you!
